Contact Klean Energy — Heavy Oil and Oil Sands Enquiries
Contact Klean Energy
Klean Energy is the heavy-oil and oil-sands upgrading arm of Klean Industries, based in Vancouver, Canada. If you are evaluating heavy-oil production, upgrading and development in Alberta's oil sands, or assessing whether integrated SAGD and upgrading improves a project you already hold, this is the place to start the conversation.
Who we speak with
Enquiries come from project sponsors holding in-situ leases, operators carrying high steam and diluent costs, engineering partners, and investors conducting technical review of a thermal bitumen asset. We are equally willing to say that a configuration does not work, which tends to make the first conversation shorter and more useful.
What to send
- Resource and reservoir basics, including depth, pay and expected steam-to-oil ratio.
- Current or projected production rate and the planned recovery method.
- Existing utility arrangements, particularly natural gas supply and water sourcing.
- Diluent arrangements and the marketing route for the blended or upgraded stream.
- Project stage, from conceptual through to permitted and shovel-ready.
- What you want from the engagement: feasibility, design, due diligence or turn-key delivery.
What happens next
An initial technical review establishes whether the integration case is credible for your resource. Where it is, the work proceeds in the normal sequence: a feasibility study to fix the energy and mass balance, plant design and engineering to set the configuration, independent due diligence to test the result, and turn-key design-build-commission or EPC delivery if the project advances to execution. Each stage has to earn the next one.
Why the sequence matters
In thermal bitumen development the expensive mistakes are made early, in the balance rather than on site. High natural-gas cost, diluent cost, and energy and water reuse are decided by the configuration chosen at the start, and they are difficult and costly to repair later. Bringing the question forward is the cheapest engineering you will ever buy.
Reaching us
Klean Energy enquiries are handled through Klean Industries in Vancouver, Canada. Please include enough technical detail for a meaningful first response, and indicate any confidentiality requirements so they can be put in place before data is exchanged.
Confidentiality and data handling
Reservoir data, production histories and commercial terms are treated as confidential from the first exchange. Where a non-disclosure agreement is required before technical material is shared, say so in your first message and it will be put in place before anything of substance is transferred.
What we will not do
We will not quote a cost per barrel, a recovery factor or a construction schedule before the work that produces those numbers has been done. Figures offered ahead of a feasibility study are marketing, not engineering.
Learn More:
Start with the numbers, not the brochure
Tell us the reservoir, the steam-to-oil ratio and the diluent arrangement, and we will tell you whether integrated upgrading changes the economics.
