About Klean Energy — Oil Sands Upgrading Arm of Klean Industries
About Klean Energy
Klean Energy is the heavy-oil and oil-sands upgrading arm of the Klean Group, wholly owned by Klean Industries and based in Vancouver, Canada. The company exists for one purpose: to develop a project focused on heavy-oil production, upgrading and development in Alberta's oil sands, built on the integration of steam-assisted gravity drainage with upgrading capacity on the same site.
Why the company was formed
Thermal bitumen development is not short of reserves; it is short of economics. Klean Energy was formed to address that gap, because the integration of SAGD and upgrading overcomes the three economic hurdles of SAGD bitumen production: high natural-gas cost, diluent cost, and energy and water reuse at the lowest environmental footprint. Those three items decide whether a thermal project is a long-life asset or a stranded one.
How we work
Klean Energy applies the Klean Industries development discipline rather than a promoter's timeline. Work begins with feasibility studies and an honest energy and mass balance, moves through plant design and engineering, is tested by independent due diligence, and is executed where appropriate on a turn-key design-build-commission or EPC basis. Sequencing matters more in the oil sands than in most sectors, because steam-to-oil ratio, water handling and upgrader yield are interdependent and cannot be fixed after the fact.
Part of the Klean Group
Being wholly owned by Klean Industries gives Klean Energy access to an engineering organisation with a delivered record in heavy industrial process plant. That background in thermal conversion, energy recovery and plant delivery is directly transferable to bitumen upgrading and tar sands processing.
What we are building toward
The objective is a heavy-oil development in which upgrading is a production unit rather than a downstream option, recovered heat and reused water reduce purchased natural gas, and the finished stream moves without bought-in diluent.
Where we are based
Klean Energy operates from Vancouver, Canada, alongside Klean Industries, while the asset itself sits in Alberta's oil sands. That separation is deliberate: technical development is run by an engineering organisation, and execution is planned for the jurisdiction where the resource and the regulatory framework actually are. Sponsors, operators and investors engage with us at any stage, from conceptual lease review to due diligence on a project in permitting.
The engagement model does not change: establish the energy and mass balance first, and let that balance decide whether the project advances.
